More Information about the
Exceptional May Leadership Course
at OELC
This is a leadership development course with modified program expectations for a wide range of students, ages 14-17. The range includes those students who because of academic, social, confidence or self-esteem issues struggle to be more engaged in leadership roles in their schools and communities. These students desire/need to develop, within an inclusive environment, the skills, confidence and motivation to emerge as leaders who can better advocate for themselves and others.
Daily small group leadership development sessions will focus on inclusion building, public speaking, communication and listening skills, time and stress management, group dynamics, collaborative problem solving, embracing diversity and conflict resolution.
Students will also participate in a range of recreational activities and outdoor activities to promote cooperation, participation, supported risk-taking and fun.
The ideal student has a positive attitude and enjoys working, living, and learning with others. Students typically leave from this course with enhanced independence and interpersonal relationships and with increased skill in confidently and successfully integrating into the school, community and workplace environments.
This course allows for a smaller teacher-to-student ratio to ensure students are provided with the individual support and encouragement necessary to maximize students’ participation and personal leadership growth.
