Leadership in Diversity
This program is designed to provide a multicultural leadership experience for students from Ontario elementary schools. The basis for this program is the need for promoting greater understanding and co-operation among the diverse cultural and racial groups, as identified by requirements of both the individual Board race relations policies and the Ministry of Education.
Students must be selected to meet as many of the following criteria and qualities as possible:
• enrolled in Grades 7 or 8 in 2008-2009
• under 14 years of age as of May 1, 2009
• leadership potential and interest in race relations and equity issues
• interest in school/community
• self-awareness, sensitivity, empathy, creativity and self-motivation
• social consciousness
• diversity in all forms encouraged and supported in our attempt to
be fully representative of all our school communities
• responsibility and ability to work with others
• willingness to participate fully in the course and to abide by the conditions of participation.

Registration Process
Applications for our leadership courses are received on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited for some of the programs, so to ensure a spot we suggest applying as soon as you are able.
Although students may attend more than one OELC course, it can not be the same course twice.
In all cases, students must be endorsed by their school to participate. Your application will not be considered complete until we receive by mail:
- a signed consent form by a parent/guardian, teacher and principal
- a completed Medical Form signed by a parent or guardian
- payment by cheque, payable to OELC

When you receive the confirmation of your acceptance you can download and print the Acceptance Package.
